How to switch from a mixing faucet to a single-lever mixer for modernizing your bathroom

The taps are an essential element in any kitchen or bathroom. Over time, you may feel the need to replace old models with newer, more efficient ones. Do you have a mixer tap that you want to replace with a more modern single-lever tap? Here are the steps to follow to successfully carry out this task while minimizing hassle.

Prepare the workspace and gather the necessary tools

Before starting to dismantle your old tap, it is crucial to properly prepare your workspace and gather all the necessary tools for this task. To do this:

  • Turn off the water supply to avoid any leaks during the work.
  • Drain the remaining water in the pipes by opening the tap.
  • Disconnect any electrical connection if it is an electronic single-lever tap.
  • Gather the appropriate tools: an adjustable spanner, a screwdriver, a water-pump plier, a bucket, and cloths.
  • Make sure you have good lighting to work comfortably.

Dismantle the old mixer tap

After preparing the space and gathering the necessary tools, proceed to dismantle the old mixer tap:

  1. Unscrew the fastening nuts that connect the hot and cold water supply pipes to the tap. Use the adjustable spanner for this.
  2. Then unscrew the nut of the tap body to detach it from its support (sink, washbasin, etc.).
  3. Retrieve the worn seals present in the pipe connections.
  4. You can now carefully remove the old mixer tap from its place and clean it if necessary.

Clean the surface before installing the new single-lever tap

Take this opportunity to clean the area around the tap hole to remove lime scale residues or other dirt. This will ensure better sealing when fitting your new single-lever tap.

Install the new single-lever tap

Once the tap location is clean and ready, it is time to install the new single-lever tap (you have a wide choice with our best sellers here):

  1. Place the new seals supplied with the tap on the threaded ends of the flexible hoses located under the tap body.
  2. Insert the tap into the hole provided on your sink or washbasin.
  3. Straighten and center it properly, then tighten the fastening nut located under the sink or washbasin.
  4. Connect the supply hoses to the hot and cold water network, tightening the nuts well. You can also replace the pipes if you find them too worn.

Check the tightness of your installation

When everything is assembled, it is essential to check that your new equipment does not leak.

  • Turn on the water supply and operate the new single-lever tap to check that it works properly.
  • Carefully examine the connections to ensure they are well sealed.
  • If there is a leak, slightly tighten the nuts or check the presence and quality of the sealing washers.

Now it’s your turn!

You now have all the keys to replace a mixer tap with a single-lever tap and thus modernize the look of your sink or washbasin. Take your time and do not hesitate to consult video tutorials to help you further with this task.
