How to switch from a mixer tap to a mixer for a modernization of your bathroom

Faucets are an essential element in any kitchen or bathroom. Over time, you may feel the need to replace old models with newer and more efficient models. Do you have a mixer tap that you want to replace with a more modern mixer? Here are the steps to follow to successfully complete this operation while minimizing any hassle.

Prepare the work area and gather the necessary tools

Before starting to disassemble your old faucet, it is crucial to prepare your work area and gather all the necessary tools for this operation. To do this:

  • Turn off the water supply to prevent any leaks during the work.
  • Empty the remaining water in the pipes by opening the faucet.
  • Disconnect any electrical connection if it is an electronic mixer.
  • Get the right tools: an adjustable wrench, a screwdriver, pliers, a bucket, and rags.
  • Make sure you have good lighting to work comfortably.

Disassemble the old mixer tap

After preparing the space and gathering the necessary tools, proceed to disassemble the old mixer tap:

  1. Unscrew the fixing nuts that connect the hot and cold water supply pipes to the faucet. Use the adjustable wrench for this.
  2. Then unscrew the nut of the faucet body to detach it from its support (sink, basin, etc.).
  3. Remove the worn seals from the pipe connections.
  4. You can now carefully remove the old mixer tap from its location and clean it if necessary.

Clean the surface before installing the new mixer

Take this opportunity to clean the area around the faucet hole to remove limescale residues or other dirt. This will ensure better sealing when installing your new mixer.

Install the new mixer

Once the faucet location is clean and ready, it's time to install the new mixer (you have a wide choice with our best sellers here):

  1. Place the new seals provided with the mixer on the threaded ends of the hoses located under the mixer body.
  2. Insert the mixer into the hole provided for this purpose on your sink or basin.
  3. Straighten it and center it correctly, then tighten the fixing nut located under the sink or basin.
  4. Connect the supply hoses to the hot and cold water network by tightening the nuts. You can also replace the pipes if you feel they are too worn.

Check the tightness of your installation

When everything is assembled, it is essential to check that your new equipment does not leak.

  • Turn on the water supply and operate the new mixer to check that it works correctly.
  • Thoroughly inspect the connections to ensure they are watertight.
  • If there is a leak, slightly tighten the nuts or check the presence and quality of the sealing gaskets.

Now it's your turn!

You now have all the keys to replace a mixer tap with a mixer and modernize the look of your sink or basin. Take your time and don't hesitate to consult video tutorials to help you further in this operation.
